POW Format and
Suggestions for Solving
Format
for POW’s
Each POW should be labeled with the following information.
Your Name: __________________ Hour: ____________ The POW #:

____________
- Always
copy the original problem.
- Solve
the problem. You will be
evaluated on how you complete the problem, how clearly you communicate your
answer, and the accuracy of your answer.
Your teacher should be able to see what you were thinking as you were
solving the problem. Do not
leave out any steps. Your
solution can be shown through pictures, equations, lists of data, etc.
Your paper should not look like an English essay.
Remember, mathematics is a powerful explanation is done properly.
- Show
a check of your solution, when appropriate.
Additional Suggestions for Solving POW’s
- Copy
the problem carefully and correctly as soon as it is assigned.
- Spend
short periods of time thinking about and attempting the problem on scrap
paper for the first few days.
- Try
all ideas that come to you, even if they seem weak.
- Think
of other problems that you may have solved that are similar.
- Ask
for hints from your teacher ONLY AFTER true effort has been made.
- Put
the final explanation and solution in the required format.
Make certain it is neat and readable.
Proof read it!
Try to explain the problem and your solution to someone
(a friend, parent/guardian, sibling, etc.) Just
talking about it out loud sometimes helps.
