Course Requirements
Enrichment
Problems Component
(Problem of the Week-POW)
Each student will complete every weekly enrichment problem
presented. Problems will either
available each Monday. If there is
no school on Monday, they will be given the next day.
You will be given ample (1 week) time to solve the problem.
Students must make every effort to solve the problem correctly.
You may turn in the POW at any time during the week in which it was
presented. However, the latest it
can be turned in is at the beginning o f the hour each Monday.
If you do not turn in the problem of the week at this time it is considered late.
Community
Service Component
Students will complete a minimum of 5 credits of approved
community service related to mathematics each semester.
These will count towards the total hours you must earn for Academy
Community Service (20 hours). The 5
credits of math community service must be obtained in at least 5 different
sessions and the minimum time allowed for each credit is 50 minutes. Three
of the five credits must be earned in ESS (after school tutoring) at
Henry
Clay
High School
. This is where your expertise is genuinely needed.
Other opportunities to receive credit may come from working with Middle
School Math teams; tutoring at another school (Morton Middle School welcomes
you), tutoring students at a community center or church after school program or
tutoring a non-family member (Algebra 1 or above).
Other occasions will arise during the spring semester to obtain credits.
You might serve as a scorekeeper, judge, or grader at the Fayette County
Regional Math Bowl.

Engineering Day
You must participate in the Annual UK Engineering Day in
February. You will receive 1 credit
community service.
AMC
You must sign up and take the AMC 10 or 12 exam in
February. The cost is $2.00. The
exam is given at
Henry
Clay
High School
during hours 1, 2, and 3.
