As you know, the Band Boosters provide a number of Fundraising opportunities throughout the year in order to raise the money we need to operate our great program!

Bingo: Bingo is in the process of switching schedulers, from Jill Jackey (many thanks, Jill!) to Diane Bradley and Jean O’Daniel. As part of the transition, we hope to both simplify the scheduling process, and provide a more consistent level of volunteer staffing during the bingo sessions. But, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The fees paid by families for band participation – whether one segment such as “concert only” or multiple segments – cover only a small portion of the costs for instruments/repairs, instructors, music, performance clothing, transportation, etc. All the fundraisers play an important role in financing the remaining costs of band participation, but by far the largest fundraiser is bingo (*now smoke-free!!*), which yields a profit of about $100 per volunteer per session.
ALL students benefit from bingo. So that the responsibility for bingo fundraising can more equitably be shared by all the families, we’re asking each marching student family to volunteer to work at least two bingo “slots” during each three month period, for a minimum of eight slots per marching student per year. We’re asking the family of each nonmarching student to volunteer to work at least one bingo slot during each three month period, for a minimum of four slots per nonmarching student per year.
So that you (1) can choose a weekend that works well for you, (2) reduce the number of bingo emails you receive, and (3) prevent elevated blood pressures in counter supervisors who obsess about having enough pulltab volunteers on any given Saturday night, we’re going to start scheduling volunteers for at least one month at a time. You’ll see a calendar for February and March on page 4, with a listing of the counter workers who currently are scheduled to work each weekend.
If you’ve not already responded to our email, please select one or more time slots when you can work during this upcoming period, and notify Diane (or Jean if you can’t reach Diane) of your choice. We’ll confirm by email that we’ve received your response, and then we’ll send you a reminder email before your weekend arrives. If each family pulls its fair share, we should be able to greatly reduce the number of “SOS” and other emails that clutter your mailboxes, as well as ensure that we ALL pull together for the benefit of our students.
Thank you!

Golf Tournament: We currently need volunteers to help obtain corporate sponsors for our golf tournament. The tournament will be held on April 11th at Connemara in Nicholasville. The success of this tournament will mainly depend on the number of sponsors that can be obtained. For more information about how you can help, contact Russell Edwards at russell_edwards@cargill.com.
Donor Program: Individuals, families and businesses can make donations to the Band, and receive recognition in our newsletter, website, marching band show shirts, banners, and more, depending on the donation. Please give this brochure to at least one person or business (for example, a local store, business, health care professional) and ask them to support the Henry Clay Band with their financial donation.
Kroger Cards: Kroger donates $4 to the band for every $100 loaded on a HC Band card; the card can then be used just like a prepaid credit card for all Kroger purchases including prescriptions and gas. The cards come loaded with $20 on them. When time to reload, it can be done right at the check out lane before you begin your purchases. Just give the card to the cashier, tell him/her the amount of $ you would like added to the card and pay that amount via cash, check or debit card. Please contact Barb Gillispie at wvagirl@insightbb.com or 263-9803 for Value and/or Kroger cards.
Goodsearch.com: This fundraiser is an internet search engine, powered by Yahoo!, which donates $.01 per web search to the band. Use this Henry Clay Band link or choose the Henry Clay High School Band Boosters as your designated charity.
GoodShop: An addition to the goodsearch.com site, this fundraiser donates 3%-20% or more of your purchase when you shop online at over 100 stores like Target and Wal-mart. Use this Henry Clay Band link or visit the goodsearch.com website, designate Henry Clay Band Boosters as your charity and then follow the GoodShop link.
Recycle Rewards : It's COOL to RECYCLE! Your Henry Clay Band wants your used cell phones and ink cartridges! Henry Clay Students and faculty can bring these items to the band room where a special collection box is waiting for you. We would also like to get area businesses to recycle these items. CAN YOU HELP US reach these businesses? If you have friends or parents who own a business, they can help by going on the Internet to www.rrewards.com and click on the link marked "School Program" then look for the Adopt-Our Group Registration for businesses; If they click there, then all they have to do is fill in their registration information and include the Henry Clay Band Beneficiary ID# 105348. The Band will get credit for their recycling and will get "CASH FOR TRASH" to help defray band expenses. No selling for this fundraiser -- just recycling which helps our environment!
