MICHAEL WHITE
DIRECTOR OF BANDS AT HENRY CLAY HIGH SCHOOL

 

Mr. White

Michael White is in his sixth year as Director of Bands at Henry Clay High School. At Henry Clay , Mr. White directs the Symphonic Band, the Marching Band, and shares direction of the Concert Band. Additionally, Mr. White oversees the color guard program and all areas of the Henry Clay Band Association.

Under Mr. White's direction, the Henry Clay Symphonic and Concert Bands have received distinguished ratings each year at KMEA Festivals, and been granted "Exemplary Performance Status" on numerous occasions. In addition, the Symphonic Band has been very fortunate to share performances with many fine high school and universities in and around Kentucky. In 2008, they are invited to play at the Bands of America Conference in Indianapolis and the KMEA State Convention in Louisville.

The Henry Clay Marching Band has experienced tremendous success in recent years, having won numerous awards and championships each year. The ensemble was very fortunate to be named a KMEA AAA State Runner-Up in the 2004 State Marching Band Championship, a first in Henry Clay history. More recently, the band is currently the three time defending champion in the Mid-States Band Association AAA Championships.

Prior to his arrival at Henry Clay High School in 2002, Mr. White served as the Director of Bands at Elizabethtown High School (2000-2002) and Associate Director of Bands at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (1998-2000). In Elizabethtown, Mr. White directed the Marching Band to two consecutive KMEA State Finals appearances and a Band of America regional class championship, in addition to unanimous distinguished ratings at each concert assessment event. At Paul Laurence Dunbar, Mr. White assisted the band to two consecutive KMEA State Finals appearances and numerous Bands of America Regional Finalist appearances.

In addition to teaching, Mr. White is actively pursuing an interest in the area of composition, having composed the past four programs for the Henry Clay High School Marching Band. Mr. White is currently working with other band programs to create works for various ensembles. Mr. White is a member of KMEA, MENC, Central States Judges Association, Mid-States Band Association and is a 2006 inductee into Phi Beta Mu. Mr. White is currently serving as a the KMEA District Seven Band Chair, and is the current representative for District Seven in the Marching Band Committee. Mr. White is a 1993 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, a 1998 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's Degree of Music in Music Education, and is working to complete his Master's Degree in Music Education from Eastern Kentucky University.

TODD CHAMBERLAIN
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BANDS AT HENRY CLAY HIGH SCHOOL

 

Mr. Chamberlain

Todd Chamberlain Assistant Director of Bands at Henry Clay High School Todd Chamberlain is entering his 14th year as a band director. A 1991 graduate of Henderson Co. HS, he studied horn at UK with David Elliott while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education in 1995. Mr. Chamberlain earned a MS in Music Education from Southern Oregon University in 2002 as part of the American Band College. He is the principal horn player for the Central Kentucky Concert Band, an adult community band in Lexington. Mr. Chamberlain most recently spent five years as band director at East Jessamine High and Middle Schools. He previously held positions as band director at Harrodsburg High School and Louisville Southern High School. He lives in Lexington with his wife, Cindy (a reading teacher at Landsdowne Elementary), and their 23-month-old son, Bratcher.
