Jazz Band

The Jazz History course will allow the student to become familiar with the development of jazz, beginning with the blues, continuing through ragtime, swing , be-bop, and modern jazz. Improvisation will be covered at length and students will become adept at performing creatively on their instrument. Prerequisite: Current enrollment in a school performing group and audition/recommendation of teacher. For the most current information on this class, contact Mr. Chamberlain: todd.chamberlain@fayette.kyschools.us.

Concert Band

The Concert Band offers instrumentalists the opportunity to perform developmentally appropriate  graded literature.  Students meet separately  from the Symphonic Band allowing a greater focus on technique and tone development.  The Concert Band performs by itself and occasionally, combined with the Symphonic Bands during public performances.  Prerequisite: Audition/Permission of the Director.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is composed of the finest wind and percussion instrumentalists at Henry Clay.  The curriculum consists of a wide variety of literature from many style periods and genres.  The focus is to musically challenge  the students individually and as a group.  This course holds advanced credit status.  Prerequisite:  Audition and/or the permission of the Director.

Steel Drum Band

The Steel Band is available to all students signed up for Henry Clay Band class.  There is a separate insurance/ instrument rental fee for this.  There are usually two bands.  One for more experienced players and one for students newer to the instrument and the style of music.  The rehearsals are in the evenings with most of the top group rehearsing during the percussion class.
